Philips Baby Monitor: A Practical Baby Monitor with Great Value

As a parent, choosing the right baby monitor can feel overwhelming with so many options on the market. I’ve been using this particular model for a while now, and here are my thoughts.

✅ What I Like about Philips Baby Monitor Premium (SCD892/26)

One of the standout features is its versatility — it offers multiple modes such as Video, Audio, ECO and VOX (voice activation). Personally, I keep it in Video mode, which works perfectly for our needs. In this mode, the battery lasts for about one full day, which is decent for daily use.

Compared to other models, this one has a USB-C charging port, which is a big plus. It means you can use your existing cables — no need to carry around a special charger when traveling.

Other great features include:

  • Direct link (peer-to-peer) is more secure then standard Wi-fi Connection
  • A built-in night light.
  • A selection of 5 soothing lullabies to help your little one fall asleep.
  • Integrated thermometer.
  • Range up to 300 m.

In terms of pricing, I found it to be very competitive when compared to similar baby monitors from other well-known brands.

❌ What Could Be Better

That said, there are a couple of downsides:

  • The camera is fixed — you can’t pan or tilt it remotely, which limits flexibility.
  • The display quality on the monitor isn’t the best — it’s functional, but don’t expect a high-resolution image.

💡 Budget-Friendly Alternative

If you’re on a tight budget or looking for a more flexible setup, consider using an indoor security camera (like one from Eufy or similar brands). You can pair it with an older smartphone you already have at home. If you don’t have a spare device, you can easily find affordable second-hand phones on platforms like Amazon Warehouse, Rebuy, or others. By connecting the camera to the phone via the brand’s app, you essentially have a DIY baby monitor — often at a lower cost and with better video quality.
